Census 2027 Preparations Begin: Pre-Test Of Houselisting Operations To Be Held In Jalgaon, Kolhapur And Mumbai
Appeal to respondents and general public in the sample areas to cooperate with the Census Enumerators and Supervisors

The Government of India has already notified its intention to conduct the Census in the year 2027. The 1st phase i.e., the Houselisting and Housing Census (Phase 1) would be undertaken in one month’s time during the period April to September 2026. The population enumeration (Phase 2) would be conducted in February 2027. Census is conducted as per the Provisions of Census Act 1948.
As a preparatory step towards Census, a Pre-Test will be conducted covering all aspects of Census Operations. The Pre-Test for the 1st phase of Census 2027, i.e., The Houselisting and Housing Census will be conducted from 10th November 2025 to 30th November 2025 in all states and in Union Territories. There shall be an option for Self – Enumeration during Pre-Test from 1st November 2025 to 7th November 2025.
The Pre-test of Houselisting Operations in the state of Maharashtra will be conducted in three selected sample areas. The sample areas selected are the Chopda Sub-district of Jalgaon District, Gaganbawada Sub-district of Kolhapur and sample areas of M/West Ward of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The provisions of Census Act 1948 will apply to the Pre-Test of Census to be conducted in the sample areas.
All respondents and the general public in the sample areas are requested to cooperate with the Census Enumerators and Supervisors who will be visiting their area and households as part of data collection for the Pre-Test by giving correct information. This is issued for information of all concerned.
