Pune: PMC Cracks Down on 17,500 Sq Ft of Illegal Constructions in Kharadi
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out a major demolition drive in Kharadi, targeting large-scale illegal constructions in the bustling Khau Galli area near Govindsagar Society. The operation stretched from Old Mundhwa Road to Sangharsh Chowk Nagar in the Chandannagar area.
Officials from the Building Development Department (Zone No. 1) demolished unauthorized structures spread over roughly 17,500 square feet. The illegal establishments included hotels, grocery shops, snack centers, and extended commercial setups encroaching on façades and common areas.
The action was executed under the guidance of Executive Engineer Suresh Sakhale, with Deputy Engineer Vivek Dubbewar, Junior Engineer Umesh Godge, and Draftsman Yogesh Gurav overseeing the drive. Tin sheds, incomplete structures, and encroachments were removed during the operation.
After the demolition, the PMC urged citizens not to reconstruct or use shared spaces for business purposes, warning of strict legal consequences for violations. Officials noted that unchecked illegal constructions across Pune are worsening traffic congestion, sanitation issues, and safety hazards for residents.
