Pune: After Persistent Three-Year Follow-Up, PMC Finally Begins Work to Lay Underground Cables at Kad Nagar Chowk In Undri
Pune, November 10, 2025: After nearly three years of consistent follow-ups through news stories by Pune Pulse, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has finally taken action to begin the long-pending work of laying underground cables at Kad Nagar Chowk in Undri.
The work is slated to happen from Palace Orchards society to Kad Nagar Chowk. This will help in accessing the underpass and elevated road from Kad Nagar to Dhruv school.
This critical work, originally scheduled to take place in October two years ago, was repeatedly delayed or overlooked for reasons that remain unclear. What makes the situation more concerning is that PMC had already widened the road in the area earlier but failed to relocate the overhead electric poles to a safer or underground location, leaving commuters vulnerable to accidents.
Local citizens and activists had been persistently highlighting this issue through various platforms. Pune Pulse, too, had raised the matter multiple times since 2023, emphasizing the safety risks posed by exposed electric poles and cables at this busy junction. The consistent coverage and public pressure finally yielded results, as PMC has now decided to begin the underground cabling work soon.
Residents have expressed relief and gratitude for the long-awaited development, appreciating PMC’s decision to act on the matter. “We are thankful to PMC for finally taking up this essential work after years of effort,” said Parveen Tambe from NIBM Undri Road Residents Forum.
A visit to the spot was also held under supervision of Vikas Dhakne, the then additional Commissioner of PMC who assured to resolve the issue but things didn’t move ahead in the right direction.
A special thanks has also been extended to Naval Kishore, whose swift intervention helped expedite the process by members of Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation. This move is expected to improve road safety and pedestrian movement in the Kad Nagar area significantly.
MURWDF members also have been raising the issue with PMC for a long time. They had also shared a memorandum with the Shirur constituency MP Dr Amol Kolhe but didn’t receive any positive response.
