Pune, November 18, 2025: In a significant move towards eco-friendly living, the Sanskriti Society in Wakad officially launched a pilot composting project on Sunday. The initiative, inaugurated at the society’s clubhouse, aims to transform organic waste management through a collaborative effort between residents, a corporate trust, and an environmental association.

The project is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnership between the  Swarn Lata Motherson Trust (SLMTT) and the Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA). As a key part of the program, the society has been provided with six Australian-patent composters free of cost. The launch event, presided over by former corporator Sandip Kaspate, doubled as an educational workshop, covering the benefits of composting, proper waste segregation techniques, and residents’ responsibilities under PCMC regulations. A street play was also performed to powerfully communicate the message of sustainability.

To kickstart participation, attending families received free eco-friendly cloth bags on a first-come, first-served basis. The society’s managing committee expressed strong optimism that this pilot will cultivate a community-wide culture of waste reduction and environmental stewardship.

Devidas Nikumbh, Chairman, Sanskriti Society Phase 3, stated, “The IPCA has committed to supporting us with a three-month service period for these initial six composters. We are grateful for the guidance from Sandip Kaspate, whose presence at the inauguration underscored the broader civic support for such green initiatives. We view this pilot as a foundational step and, based on its success, are prepared to scale it up.”

He further added, “Our vision is to make Sanskriti Society a benchmark for environmental responsibility in the region. This project is not just about waste management, it is an investment in a sustainable lifestyle for our residents and a cleaner future for our community. We encourage every household to participate actively.”

“This initiative, launched under the IPCA’s ‘SORT Phase 3’ project, has provided our society with six composting bins. The program includes a comprehensive three-month training and awareness campaign to educate residents on segregating dry and wet waste. Following the street play and inauguration, we learned from Sandip Kaspate that there is potential for future collaboration between the PCMC and IPCA. Similar units are being installed in Phase 1 and Phase 3. A key incentive shared with us is that societies that consistently maintain proper waste segregation may become eligible for a property tax discount from the PCMC after the training period. As this is a pilot project for us, our immediate goal is its successful implementation so that every resident can reap the long-term benefits.” Said Prashant Patil, Committee Member, Sanskriti Society Phase 3.
