Odisha: A video from Bhadrak district has gone viral, showing customers and staff of a State Bank of India (SBI) branch climbing a ladder placed on a tractor to reach the first floor of the building. The unusual situation occurred after an anti-encroachment drive damaged the bank’s main entrance.

According to reports, officials carried out a demolition drive from Charampa market to Bhadrak railway station, removing illegal structures in the area. During this operation, the front portion and staircase of the SBI branch were demolished because they were allegedly built on encroached land. Both the bank and the house owner had reportedly been warned earlier.

With the main entry destroyed, the bank temporarily placed a ladder on a tractor trolley so that customers and staff could climb up to the first floor and access the branch.

The video sparked wide discussion online, with many expressing concern over the lack of basic facilities, while others reacted humorously.

One user wrote, “India builds satellites, but at my local bank, I need mountaineering gear to enter.”
Another commented, “India not for starters,” while someone else joked that the branch now looks like a “burglar-proof bank.”
A third user posted, “Customers are measuring the ladder on a tractor to access a bank. So many questions — but India is not for beginners.”

New Staircase Installed

Following the viral video and widespread criticism, a steel staircase has reportedly been installed by the building owner to provide safe access for customers and employees.
