Pimpri-Chinchwad | December 14: Senior Congress leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has claimed that a major political development could take place in the country on December 19, suggesting the possibility of a change in India’s Prime Minister, with a Marathi leader potentially assuming the top post.
Speaking at the book release ceremony of senior social activist Manav Kamble in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chavan clarified a recent social media post of his that had triggered widespread discussion. In the post, he had hinted that a Marathi individual could become the Prime Minister within a month.
Addressing the gathering, Chavan said that although a change may occur, the Congress will not form the government, as it does not have the required majority in Parliament. “If a change happens, it will be within the existing political framework. Congress does not have the numbers to lead the government,” he stated.
Clarifying His Viral Post
Explaining the context of his tweet, Chavan said many people had misunderstood it and assumed he was staking a personal claim. “I never said I would become the Prime Minister. I was only indicating that the person currently holding the position may have to step aside, and that a Marathi leader could emerge,” he said, without naming anyone.
Claims Linked to International Developments
Chavan further claimed that developments in the United States could have an impact on global and Indian politics. He referred to an alleged sting operation involving an Israeli spy, stating that related information may be made public on December 19 under a law passed by the US Parliament and signed by former President Donald Trump.
According to Chavan, a large volume of data—including photographs and emails—has already begun surfacing, with more disclosures expected. “The US government has reportedly stated that no individual, regardless of stature, will be protected if names emerge,” he claimed, adding that thousands of documents have already been released.
Awaiting December 19
Chavan said the full impact of these disclosures remains uncertain, but asserted that they could lead to significant political consequences. “What exactly will happen is unclear, but something decisive may unfold,” he added.
The claims have sparked intense political debate, though no official confirmation has been issued by the government or international authorities regarding the assertions made.
