Weather Update: Western Disturbance to Trigger Major Weather Changes After February 3

Maharashtra is once again bracing for weather instability as strong winds, rising temperatures, and the threat of unseasonal rain loom over the state. According to meteorological forecasts, gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph may affect several regions, while winter chill continues to weaken across the state.

Unseasonal Rain Wreaks Havoc, February Begins Warm

Towards the end of January, unseasonal rainfall caused significant disruption across Maharashtra. As February begins, the weather has turned noticeably warmer, with minimum temperatures expected to rise further over the next 24 hours.

While north Indian states have been issued rain and hailstorm alerts between February 1 and 3, Maharashtra is likely to experience above-normal temperatures, adding to discomfort.

Rising Temperatures and Increasing Heat

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported a 3 to 5°C rise in minimum temperatures across northwest India and parts of central India, including Maharashtra. This shift has reduced nighttime cold conditions and increased humidity levels.

Although no major temperature fluctuation is expected over the next two days, cool northerly winds after February 4 may bring a slight temperature drop of 2 to 4°C.

Cyclonic Circulation Raises Weather Concerns

A developing cyclonic circulation near Kerala has increased the risk of unseasonal rainfall in Maharashtra. While there is currently no alert for heavy rain or hailstorms, even light to moderate showers have already caused agricultural losses in some areas.

Additionally, a Western Disturbance affecting northern India could trigger further weather changes. Meteorologists indicate that significant weather shifts are likely after February 3. February may witness cool mornings followed by intense daytime heat, creating sharp temperature contrasts.

Hailstorm Alert in Neighboring States

States bordering Maharashtra, including east Rajasthan and west Madhya Pradesh, have been issued hailstorm and thunderstorm warnings for February 1 and 2. Due to dense cloud cover in these regions, border districts such as Nandurbar and Dhule in north Maharashtra may experience cloudy conditions and isolated light rainfall.

Fog Alert May Impact Transport

Although fog levels have reduced due to rain and cloud cover in northern India, dense fog is expected to return after February 3. This may disrupt railway and air traffic on routes connecting Maharashtra with northern states.

Conclusion

With gusty winds, rising heat, and unseasonal rain threats, Maharashtra faces yet another period of volatile weather. Authorities and farmers are advised to stay alert and follow weather updates closely over the coming days.
