Pune Traffic Police Launch Special Drive Against Triple-Seat Riders, Over 2,600 Vehicles Booked
Pune | February 14, 2026:
The Pune City Traffic Police conducted a special enforcement drive across the city to curb the growing menace of triple-seat riding on two-wheelers, booking thousands of violators and collecting substantial fines in the process.
According to an official press note, a joint special drive was carried out on February 12 and February 13, 2026, by the Pune Traffic Department in coordination with all city police stations. The campaign targeted motorists riding two-wheelers with more than two persons, a practice that is illegal and poses serious safety risks.
During the operation, simultaneous action was taken at major roads, busy intersections, and high-traffic zones across Pune. Traffic police teams and local police station staff carried out coordinated checks, resulting in large-scale enforcement action.
Action Taken During the Drive:
- 2,649 triple-seat vehicles were booked for violations.
- 988 vehicles were seized during the operation.
- 2,137 fines were paid on the spot by violators.
- A total of ₹21.37 lakh was collected and deposited with the government.
- Additionally, 13,308 challans were issued for various traffic violations.
The official further stated that between February 10, 2026, and February 14, 2026, a total of 5,380 triple-seat riders were penalised as part of continuous special enforcement operations. During this period, fines amounting to ₹1.03 crore were recovered from offenders involved in triple-seat riding and other traffic rule violations.
The special drive saw the active participation of personnel from 30 traffic divisions and 44 police stations across Pune, highlighting a citywide coordinated enforcement effort.

Issuing a public appeal, the Pune City Traffic Police stated that triple-seat riding on two-wheelers is a punishable offence under the law, significantly increases the risk of accidents, and endangers not only the riders but also other road users.
Citizens have been urged to strictly follow traffic rules and adopt safe and disciplined driving practices. The police department also clarified that such special enforcement drives will continue regularly to ensure smooth traffic flow and to reduce road accidents in the city.
The Traffic Branch of Pune Police has appealed to citizens for cooperation in maintaining road safety and traffic discipline.
