Pune: MP Supriya Sule Raises Alarm Over Water Shortage, Urges Devendra Fadnavis To Act Swiftly
Pune, February 20, 2026: Supriya Sule, Working President of the NCP-SP and Member of Parliament from Baramati, has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, expressing deep concern over the worsening water supply situation in Pune. She called for immediate government action to prevent further difficulties for residents.
In her letter, Sule noted that the state’s Water Resources Department had sanctioned 11.60 TMC of water for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) from the Khadakwasla project. However, official data shows that 11.23 TMC had already been consumed by January 31, leaving reserves that may last only about 12 more days.
She also pointed out that during the 2024–25 financial year, the PMC reportedly used an additional 8.44 TMC beyond its approved allocation, leading to a financial penalty. The department has warned that water supply could be halted if outstanding payments are not cleared.
According to Sule, several areas in Pune are already experiencing reduced water supply, disrupting daily life. With summer approaching, she cautioned that the crisis could intensify unless urgent corrective measures are implemented.
Sule met PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to review the situation and seek solutions. She emphasized the need for stronger coordination between the municipal body and the Water Resources Department, urging the state government to treat the matter as a priority and ensure citizens do not suffer due to administrative lapses or financial disagreements.
Separately, Sule has asked the Maharashtra government to provide security to her party colleague Rohit Pawar. She stated that Pawar has been raising public concerns following the January 28 plane crash in Baramati that claimed the life of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others.
