A 41-second CCTV video showing a young girl rescuing two small children from a malfunctioning elevator has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread praise for her courage and quick thinking.
The footage, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), captures the tense moments when two children appear to be at risk of getting trapped as elevator doors begin to shut unexpectedly. Without hesitation, the girl rushes forward and places her hand between the closing doors in an attempt to stop them. A woman standing nearby immediately steps in to assist her.
As the doors partially reopen, the girl positions herself between them, using both hands to push and prevent them from closing again. Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind, she lifts one of the children and passes her to a woman outside the elevator. The second child is also pulled to safety with the help of another woman. At one point in the video, an adult is seen lifting the girl and moving her away from the doorway to ensure her safety as well.
The exact location and date of the incident have not been confirmed. However, the video has rapidly gained traction online, with users applauding the girl’s bravery and calm response during the emergency.
Many social media users compared her to the Hindu goddess Durga, symbolising strength and protection. One user wrote, “Brave girl… the sense of urgency was excellent.” Another commented, “This little girl did what many adults might not have been able to do — she protected like Durga.”
Several others praised her composure, noting that she did not panic and acted decisively in a potentially dangerous situation. Some users described her as an example of how courage and alertness can prevent accidents.
At the same time, a section of users raised concerns about elevator safety and maintenance. Some called for accountability from the company responsible for maintaining the lift, questioning how the doors could close in such a manner if safety mechanisms were functioning properly. Others debated whether alternative steps, such as entering the lift and moving to another floor, might have been safer.
Despite differing opinions, the overwhelming response online has been one of admiration. The young girl’s swift action is being hailed as heroic, with many saying her bravery prevented what could have turned into a serious accident.
