Pune, Maharashtra, February 26, 2026: Residents of Mengdewadi near Manchar in Ambegaon Tehsil of Pune district were left shaken after a leopard was captured on CCTV dragging away a stray dog in the early hours of Wednesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:22 a.m. and resulted in the death of a local indie dog. The dramatic footage, now circulating widely on social media, has intensified concerns over rising incidents of human-animal conflict in the region.

Two separate CCTV clips document the attack. The recordings show three dogs resting in a residential area during the night. One of the larger dogs appears to sense movement in the darkness and cautiously retreats from the spot. A smaller dog remains asleep, unaware of the looming threat.

Within seconds, a leopard emerges from the shadows, swiftly pounces on the smaller dog, and drags it away into nearby vegetation. A third dog, positioned at a distance, is seen barking frantically after the attack, but the predator had already fled the scene with its prey.

The Mengdewadi incident follows another leopard sighting reported just a day earlier in Otur village in Junnar Tehsil, raising alarm among local residents, particularly in agrarian communities.

Although no human injuries have been reported in either case, the boldness of the latest attack in a residential pocket has prompted calls for enhanced patrolling and monitoring.
