Pune: Road Divider Installed Near Lulla Nagar Flyover After Residents Raise Safety Concerns
Pune: After repeated complaints from residents regarding road safety near the Lulla Nagar Flyover, authorities have installed a road divider at the accident-prone stretch opposite the Indian Red Cross Society office, bringing relief to daily commuters.
The issue was initially raised by residents who claimed that the removal of an earlier divider had made the stretch unsafe for motorists and pedestrians. The concern was formally highlighted by social activist Nitin D’Souza, who submitted a written complaint to the traffic authorities, urging them to take immediate action to prevent accidents.
According to residents, the divider had been installed earlier by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) during the Pune Cycle Race 2026 in January but was later removed. Following its removal, commuters travelling through the busy corridor reported risky vehicle movements, including sudden lane changes and vehicles crossing into opposite lanes.
The stretch is frequently used by motorists travelling from areas such as Wanwadi, NIBM Road and Kondhwa, making it an important traffic link in the southern part of the city. Residents alleged that the absence of the divider increased the chances of head-on collisions and traffic confusion, especially during peak hours.
After receiving multiple complaints, officials from the Pune Traffic Police and the Pune Municipal Corporation conducted a joint site inspection. Traffic officials, including personnel from the Wanwadi Traffic Division, visited the location to assess the situation.
Following the inspection, authorities decided to reinstall the road divider at the spot to regulate vehicle movement and improve safety for motorists.
Residents have welcomed the move, stating that the installation of the divider will help reduce accident risks and ensure safer travel along the busy road stretch. Local citizens have also urged authorities to continue monitoring traffic safety measures in the area to prevent future hazards.
