Pimpri Chinchwad, March 18, 2026: Pimpri-Chinchwad police have arrested two alleged members of a gang involved in kidnapping for ransom and robbery, officials said on Tuesday. The Anti-Extortion Cell of the Crime Branch cracked two serious cases registered at Bhosari and Sangvi police stations.

The accused, identified as Pawan Chhagan Ujgare (26) and Sumit Hanumant Karad (28), were taken into custody following a targeted operation. Police recovered valuables worth ₹5.16 lakh, including mobile phones, sharp weapons (koytas), two autorickshaws used in the crimes, and cash.

The investigation began on March 16 after the police control room received an emergency call reporting the abduction of a 32-year-old man following a financial dispute. According to police, the victim was assaulted and forcibly taken away in an autorickshaw after the accused demanded money. A case was subsequently registered at Bhosari Police Station.

During the probe, officials discovered that the same suspects were linked to another robbery reported a day earlier in the Sangvi area. In that incident, a 35-year-old man was lured into a rickshaw and taken to a secluded location in Pimple Gurav. He was allegedly threatened with a weapon, assaulted, and robbed of his phone and cash. The attackers also forced him to disclose his digital payment credentials and transferred ₹14,810 from his account.

Acting on technical surveillance and a tip-off, police teams tracked the suspects to the Bhosari MIDC area. The duo attempted to escape when confronted but were apprehended after a brief chase.

Police officials confirmed that both cases have been solved, and further investigation is underway.
