Rising temperatures, humidity, and intermittent storm activity expected across regions from Konkan to Vidarbha

A fresh weather alert has raised concerns across Maharashtra, as the state braces for a fourth spell of heatwave conditions alongside the continued threat of unseasonal rainfall over the next 72 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department.

Over the past few days, the state has been witnessing a mix of extreme weather conditions, including gusty winds, hailstorms, and rising temperatures. Meteorological patterns indicate another shift, impacting regions from Konkan to Vidarbha.

In Mumbai and the Konkan belt, temperatures are expected to touch 36°C, with increasing humidity likely to result in hot and uncomfortable weather. While no alert has been issued for March 22, a yellow alert for hot and humid conditions will come into effect from March 23 across most coastal areas.

In parts of western and central Maharashtra, including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, and Ahmednagar, no major alerts have been issued for today. However, isolated areas may witness light rainfall accompanied by gusty winds. Temperatures are likely to remain between 34°C and 37°C, with a renewed spell of unseasonal rain expected from Monday.

The Marathwada region, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, is likely to experience dry weather in the short term. However, forecasts indicate a return of storm activity, including gusty winds, rain, and possible hailstorms from early next week. Temperatures here are expected to range between 35°C and 38°C.

In Vidarbha, rising heat levels combined with lingering unseasonal conditions continue to pose a challenge. Cities like Nagpur may see temperatures ranging from 36°C to 39°C, with cloudy skies but minimal chances of rainfall today. A brief pause in rainfall activity is expected before conditions intensify again after two days.

Meanwhile, North Maharashtra, covering districts such as Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar, will continue to experience dry and hot weather. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 35°C and 37°C, with negligible chances of rainfall.

The IMD has also indicated that temperatures across the state may rise by more than 2°C over the next two days, intensifying heatwave conditions in several regions. Coastal areas, especially Konkan, are likely to face increased discomfort due to high humidity levels.

Advisory:
Residents are advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses, stay hydrated, and remain alert to sudden weather changes, particularly in regions prone to thunderstorms and hail.
