IMD issues yellow alert for multiple districts; gusty winds and lightning likely on March 25
Pune, March 25, 2026:
An unusual mix of heatwave and unseasonal rain is set to impact Maharashtra on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing alerts for several districts across regions.
According to the forecast, the Konkan belt, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Palghar, will continue to experience hot and humid conditions. Maximum temperatures in Mumbai are expected to range between 33°C and 36°C, with high humidity intensifying discomfort. A yellow alert for heatwave conditions has been issued for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad.
In western Maharashtra, dry and hot weather will prevail in Satara and Kolhapur. However, light rainfall is likely in Pune and Sangli. Pune is expected to record temperatures between 33°C and 36°C during the day and 18°C to 21°C at night. Solapur is under a yellow alert for unseasonal rain, with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h.
In north Maharashtra, districts such as Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar and Ahmednagar are likely to witness light rainfall. Nashik is expected to record temperatures between 33°C and 35°C.
The Marathwada region will see a mix of dry heat and rainfall. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna will remain hot and dry, with temperatures ranging from 33°C to 37°C. Light rain is expected in Parbhani, Beed and Hingoli. Meanwhile, Latur, Nanded and Dharashiv may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds of 30–40 km/h.
In the Vidarbha region, including Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, Washim, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Buldhana, hot conditions will persist, with maximum temperatures ranging between 34°C and 38°C.
The IMD has cautioned that the combination of heatwave and unseasonal rainfall could impact agriculture and daily life. Farmers and residents have been advised to take necessary precautions against lightning, gusty winds, and heat-related stress.
