Pune Rain Tragedy: Woman Killed After Tree Falls On Sinhagad Road During Sudden Rain
Pune, April 2, 2026: Unseasonal rain lashed several parts of Pune on Thursday, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruption across the city. The sudden downpour also claimed its first life after a tree collapsed in the Sinhagad Road area.
The incident occurred near Navshya Maruti Temple, where a tree fell due to heavy rain and strong winds, trapping three people underneath. One woman, identified as Ranjana Navnath Giri, died on the spot, while two others were injured. The injured were rescued with the help of locals and rushed to a government hospital for treatment.
Police and emergency teams reached the scene soon after receiving information and carried out rescue operations.
The rain, which lasted for about an hour, caused waterlogging in several areas including Kondhwa, Uttamnagar, Dapodi, Sinhagad Road, Kothrud, and parts of Pimpri-Chinchwad. In many places, roads were submerged, leading to traffic congestion and breakdown of vehicles.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cloudy conditions with intermittent showers over the next few days, warning residents to remain cautious.
