Pune: Drunk Tempo Driver Rams Into Compound In Undri; Three Girls Narrowly Escape
Pune, April 6, 2026: A speeding tempo driven by an allegedly intoxicated driver crashed into a metal compound wall in Wadachiwadi on the Undri road corner late Sunday night, narrowly avoiding a serious accident.
The incident occurred around 11 pm when the vehicle, carrying goods, was travelling at high speed from Wadachiwadi towards Undri. Police and eyewitnesses said the driver lost control of the vehicle due to intoxication.
As the tempo approached a junction near Undri Chowk, it rammed into a temporary metal barricade installed around an under-construction site. At the time of the accident, three young girls walking nearby managed to escape unharmed by a narrow margin.
Local residents rushed to the scene and pulled the driver out of the vehicle. Upon noticing his intoxicated condition, some bystanders reportedly confronted and assaulted him.
Residents have raised concerns over increasing heavy vehicle traffic in the area, alleging that many drivers operate without proper permits and frequently violate traffic rules. Locals also claimed that enforcement agencies have not taken adequate action to regulate such violations.
The incident has once again highlighted growing safety concerns on the Undri road, particularly due to unchecked movement of heavy vehicles.
