Pune: Navale Bridge Gets AI Surveillance, Lower Speed Limit To Tackle Frequent Accidents
Pune, April 6, 2026: Authorities have introduced a series of safety upgrades at the accident-prone Navale Bridge stretch in Pune, aiming to reduce crashes and improve traffic management.
The National Highways Authority of India has installed an advanced monitoring system that includes 14 CCTV cameras and three high-speed gantry cameras along the corridor. These systems are directly linked to the city’s police control room, allowing continuous real-time surveillance and faster response in case of emergencies.
To address safety concerns on the steep gradient near the bridge—especially with heavy truck movement—the speed limit on this stretch has been reduced from 60 kmph to 40 kmph. Signage has been updated accordingly, and violations will be automatically detected and penalised through the camera network.
In addition to surveillance, several physical and visual measures have been implemented to slow down traffic and alert drivers. Rumble strips have been installed between the Katraj Tunnel and Navale Bridge to encourage speed reduction.
Authorities are also setting up digital display boards to provide live updates on traffic, weather, and road conditions. Reflective road markers, improved lane markings, warning signs, and blinking signals have been added to enhance visibility and driver awareness.
Officials said the integrated system is expected to strengthen enforcement, ensure quicker emergency response, and significantly improve safety on one of Pune’s most hazardous road stretches.
