New daily non-AC train aims to offer affordable, safer travel for long-distance passengers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday flagged off the Banaras–Hadapsar (Pune) Amrit Bharat Express from Varanasi, introducing a new daily train service connecting Uttar Pradesh with Maharashtra via Madhya Pradesh.
The non-AC train has been designed mainly for low- and middle-income passengers. It includes General and Sleeper class coaches, Divyang-friendly facilities, and a pantry for onboard meals.
Railway officials said the train comes with improved safety features such as CCTV cameras, emergency communication systems, fire protection technology, and specially designed crash-resistant coaches. It also uses push-pull locomotive technology to make operations more efficient.
Passengers can expect better seating and sleeping arrangements, improved lighting, mobile charging points with USB ports, and upgraded toilets. The train also has sealed gangways to enhance comfort and safety during the journey.
The Banaras–Hadapsar Amrit Bharat Express will take around 30 hours to complete its journey and will stop at 18 stations, including Prayagraj, Jhansi, Bhopal (Rani Kamlapati), Itarsi, Bhusaval, Jalgaon, Manmad, Kopargaon, and Daund before reaching Hadapsar in Pune.
This new service will provide direct rail connectivity between eastern Uttar Pradesh and western Maharashtra, linking important cities and religious destinations like Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Shirdi region.
Officials added that the train will benefit daily travellers, migrant workers, students, and pilgrims by offering a direct route without the need to change trains.
