Viral video shows local confronting touts and warning tourists about common “scratch card” trap

A video from Goa is going viral for all the right reasons, showing a local man stepping in to stop an alleged scam targeting tourists. In the clip, the man confronts two suspected touts who were trying to lure a couple from Kerala into a trap, before turning to reassure them, saying, “Ma’am, please relax and enjoy yourselves. You have come here to visit Goa. Don’t fall for this trap.”

The video begins with a strong message flashing on screen, followed by another warning: “Goa’s reputation is at stake if touts go unchecked.” What follows is a real-time confrontation that highlights a growing concern around tourist scams in the state.

The man is seen stopping two individuals on a bike and directly calling them out. “How many times do I have to explain this to you guys? Wait, stop right there! These guys are scammers!” he says, as the accused quickly try to leave the spot. He even warns them, “Why are you walking away? Stop right there! We are going to call the police,” but they manage to flee.

After the confrontation, he explains the scam to the confused couple. The woman tells him, “What exactly is their scheme? They told us, ‘We received this gift.’” He responds clearly, “Just a second. It’s not a gift, it’s nothing of the sort. This has become a daily occurrence.”

He goes on to break down how the scam works. Tourists are handed scratch cards, where one appears to “win” a prize. This excitement is then used to push expensive travel packages. “To claim your prize, you have to go to a specific restaurant. But it’s all fake. It’s a bogus slip of paper,” he explains.

Calling out the larger issue, the man adds, “Every time, they harass tourists just like this. This isn’t a genuine offer; it’s a scam.” He also warns about the broader impact, saying such activities are damaging Goa’s image and could harm the tourism industry.

The video has struck a chord online, with many praising the man’s actions. Comments flooded in, with users saying, “Appreciate the true Goan standing up for what is right,” and “The kind of Goa citizens we all need to save Goa.” Others shared similar experiences, highlighting how such scams are not limited to one location.

The incident has once again brought attention to the need for stricter action against tourist scams, as concerns grow over their impact on both visitors and local livelihoods.
