To accommodate the growing rush of passengers during the peak summer travel period, Central Railway has announced the introduction of six special weekend train services connecting Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. These additional services are aimed at easing congestion on regular trains and providing travellers with more comfortable and flexible journey options across major routes in Maharashtra.

Out of the six special services, four will operate on the Mumbai–Nagpur corridor, while two will connect Pune and Nagpur directly, offering an alternative route for passengers avoiding Mumbai transit.

Mumbai–Nagpur Weekend Special Services

Train number 01021 will run from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) departing at 12:30 am on May 1 and May 3, reaching Nagpur at 3:45 pm the same day.

On the return leg, train number 01022 will leave Nagpur at 9:40 pm on the same dates, arriving at CSMT at 1:50 pm the following day.

These services together account for four operations (two departures and two return journeys) over the specified weekends, designed to manage the high passenger demand between the two major cities.

Pune–Nagpur Direct Weekend Specials

For travellers between Pune and Nagpur, train number 01467 will depart from Pune Junction at 3:50 pm on May 1, reaching Nagpur at 8:05 am the next morning.

In the reverse direction, train number 01468 will depart from Nagpur at 7:00 am on May 3, arriving at Pune at 11:30 pm the same day.

These two services are intended to improve direct connectivity and reduce dependence on longer Mumbai-linked routes.

Route, Halts and Coach Composition

The Mumbai–Nagpur trains will stop at several important stations across Maharashtra, including Thane, Kalyan, Nashik Road, Manmad, Jalgaon, Bhusaval, Akola, Badnera and Wardha, ensuring regional accessibility along the route.

Both sets of special trains will include a mix of AC 3-tier, sleeper class, and general second-class coaches, catering to passengers across different travel budgets and preferences.

Booking Details and Passenger Facilities

Reservations for Train Nos. 01021 and 01022 began on April 29, 2026, and are available through IRCTC Rail Connect, PRS reservation counters, and the RailOne mobile application.

Passengers can also book unreserved tickets via the UTS system, offering additional flexibility for short-notice travel.

Railway officials have urged travellers to secure bookings early, anticipating heavy demand during the holiday season and weekend peaks.

Improved Connectivity for Summer Travel

Central Railway has stated that these additional weekend specials are part of its broader effort to handle increased passenger traffic during summer vacations. By introducing extra capacity on high-demand corridors, the railway aims to reduce overcrowding, improve travel comfort, and ensure smoother operations across long-distance routes.
