Pune, May 2, 2026: In a swift response to a protest over ongoing water supply issues in Kharadi, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) assured residents of concrete action within 24 hours of a fast initiated by housing society members.

Following discussions at the protest site, PMC officials outlined a three-point action plan to address the concerns raised by residents. As per the assurances, three water tanks located in Survey No. 58 will be filled to full capacity within the next 15 days.

Additionally, within one month—before the end of May 2026—the overhead water tank in Survey No. 38 will be made operational, and water supply to Survey No. 58 will be significantly increased.

Officials further confirmed that, starting tomorrow, a detailed survey for a piped water supply system will be conducted across the Kharadi area. Based on the findings, a comprehensive plan for improving water distribution will be prepared and implemented at the earliest.

Members of the Kharadi Housing Welfare Society Association (KHWSA), including Deepak Patil  (chairman), Manoj Dudhankar (secretary), Pravin Zore, Harshal Gharge, Pritam Singh, Kiran Palse, Abhishek Kumar, and Rahul Parmar, were present during the protest.

“Residents are facing the double burden of high property taxes and rising maintenance costs, yet continue to struggle with inadequate water supply. Access to water is a basic right, not a privilege. It is concerning that private tanker operators can ensure regular supply while the municipal system falls short. Citizens are effectively paying twice for a fundamental necessity. Immediate action and accountability from the authorities are essential,” said Sumit Dusad, a Kharadi Resident.

Resident of Forest County society, Pravin Zore said, “Residents of Kharadi are facing an acute water shortage due to inadequate supply from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Housing societies are being forced to procure water through tankers at high cost, resulting in a steep increase of 50% to 80% in monthly maintenance bills. Residents urge the PMC to take immediate action to ensure adequate and consistent water supply and provide relief from the growing financial burden.”

PMC representatives, along with officials such as Virendra Kelkar, Eknath Gadekar, Sunil Mohite, Nitin Jadhav, Shripal Jadhav, and Pankaj Atarde, attended the site and formally assured residents of timely action, leading to the withdrawal of the fast.

The development has brought temporary relief to residents, who have been facing persistent water shortages in the rapidly growing Kharadi area.
