Updating Mobile Number Linked to LPG Gas Connection? May Have To Wait 90 Days For The Process
Oil companies have tightened LPG connection rules by making biometric verification and KYC mandatory for changing registered mobile numbers, aiming to prevent fraud and unauthorised changes.
A major rule change related to LPG gas connections could affect millions of consumers across the country, especially those planning to update or change the mobile number linked to their gas connection.

Under the revised system introduced by petroleum companies, registered mobile numbers can no longer be changed instantly. Customers may now have to wait up to 90 days for a new mobile number to become fully active in the LPG system.
Earlier, consumers could update their mobile numbers immediately through gas agencies or online portals. However, this process has now been discontinued as part of stricter security measures aimed at preventing fraud, fake deliveries and unauthorised account changes.
According to reports, biometric verification and KYC procedures have now been made mandatory for updating mobile numbers linked to LPG connections. Officials believe the new process will ensure that only genuine customers are able to make changes to their accounts.
The move comes amid increasing complaints related to fraudulent gas deliveries, black marketing and cases where mobile numbers linked to gas connections were allegedly changed without the customer’s knowledge.
While the stricter rules are expected to improve security, many consumers may face practical difficulties because of the long waiting period. Customers who urgently need to update their numbers due to lost SIM cards, network issues or other reasons could experience delays in receiving gas booking confirmations and delivery alerts.
Reports also suggest that delays in mobile number activation may create problems in accessing helpline services and online booking systems in some cases.
Consumer concerns are likely to increase in areas where complaints regarding LPG supply and customer support services have already been reported.
The new verification system is part of a broader effort by oil marketing companies to strengthen customer authentication and reduce misuse in LPG distribution services.
Officials have advised consumers to ensure that their existing registered mobile numbers remain active and updated to avoid disruptions in booking and delivery communication.
