Pimpri, May 12, 2026: In a major relief for thousands of residents living in housing societies across Pimpri Chinchwad, the civic administration is set to introduce a special policy for trimming trees inside society premises. The move is expected to reduce the financial burden currently faced by residents and housing societies, especially before the monsoon season.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting held on Monday between Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi. Senior civic officials from various departments were also present at the meeting.

At present, the municipal corporation undertakes tree trimming only in public spaces, while societies have to bear the entire expense for trimming trees within their compounds. Residents often spend large amounts from society funds for maintenance and safety work during heavy rains and storms. The proposed policy is expected to provide much-needed support to societies and reduce these recurring expenses.

During the meeting, emphasis was also laid on balancing urban development with environmental protection. Instructions were given to ensure that at least one tree is planted between every two electric poles along under-construction roads in the city.

The discussion also focused on traffic congestion in rapidly growing areas such as Tathawade and Wakad. Officials were directed to speed up road widening works and create more “free left” turns at busy junctions to ease daily traffic jams. Authorities were also asked to reduce the width of some footpaths developed under Smart City and Urban Street projects at Kalpataru Chowk, RK Chowk and Sangvi Phata to create additional road space for vehicles.

Concerns over pollution caused by Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants were also raised. A joint meeting involving PCMC, PMC, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and the district administration will be organised to address the issue. Notices have already been issued to nearly 150 builders for allegedly violating SOP norms related to RMC operations.

The civic body has also started a survey of public toilets across the city, with plans to reserve land for quality toilet facilities in the upcoming development plan. Special focus will be given to building women-friendly “She Toilets” through CSR funding.

Ahead of the monsoon, officials were instructed to complete the cleaning of drains and streams on priority and remove illegal encroachments from water channels. Immediate action was also ordered to resolve contaminated water issues in Kalewadi.

The meeting further discussed employee welfare schemes for around 2,800 civic staff members and speeding up the transfer process of the Zilla Parishad school in Punawale to the municipal corporation.
