Pune, May 15, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has accelerated work on the much-awaited Mohammadwadi-NIBM water supply project, with water distribution already commencing in several parts of the area soon. While supply has started in select phases, pipeline testing, technical inspections and internal connection work are still ongoing in multiple localities and will continue to find out any issues on the distribution lines.
According to PMC officials, nearly 1.5 lakh residents from Mohammadwadi, NIBM Annexe and surrounding areas are expected to benefit from the project through the three newly constructed overhead water tanks located opposite Dorabjee Mall.

PMC Additional Commissioner Pavneet Kaur stated that regular piped water supply is being rolled out in phases and several societies have already started receiving water through the new system.
PMC Superintending Engineer, water supply department Nandkishor Jagtap said the pipeline is complete and water connection work is actively underway across housing societies, and additional areas are expected to begin receiving water supply soon.
Residents monitoring the project said major infrastructure work has progressed significantly on the ground.
Col (Retd) Sanjay Borse, a resident of Mohammadwadi’s Sainik Vihar society, said the main water tank has already started receiving water, while cleaning operations and testing procedures are still being carried out. He added that PMC is currently completing external pipeline connections to societies, while internal connections within residential complexes will need to be handled separately through authorised plumbers.
He further stated that although some technical and operational work remains pending, the entire system is likely to become fully functional within the next month.
Tara Singh, a resident of Imperial Towers in NIBM Annexe, said a recent meeting was held PMC engineers and senior civic officials regarding the progress of the project and we are eagerly waiting for water supply.
Jagtap clarified that water connection charges are fixed according to the size and type of approved connection as determined by the General Body. Details regarding charges and procedures are available on the PMC website.
Officials explained that licensed plumbers are required to submit applications for new water connections, following which approvals are granted after inspection by the Water Supply Department.
The civic body also pointed out that nearly 60 to 70 newly constructed buildings in Mohammadwadi had not received water connections earlier due to the absence of proper infrastructure in the area.
To assist residents, PMC had organised a special help desk camp on May 9 to facilitate water connection applications. During the camp, around 41 applications were received from citizens.
