Pune News: Young Couple Seriously Injured After Bike Falls Into Gorge at Sinhagad Ghat Road
Pune: A horrific accident took place on Saturday evening on the ghat road leading down from Sinhagad Fort, one of Pune’s most popular tourist destinations. A young man and woman sustained serious injuries after their motorcycle reportedly lost control and plunged into a deep gorge.
The injured have been identified as Pooja Chavan and Saurav Pasalkar.
Bike Loses Control Near ‘11 Thousand Point’
According to preliminary information, the duo had visited Sinhagad Fort for an outing and were returning downhill on their motorcycle during the evening hours. When they reached the “11 Thousand Point” stretch on the Sinhagad ghat road, the rider allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing the bike to skid off the road and fall directly into the valley.
The impact of the crash was severe, throwing both victims deep into the gorge and leaving them critically injured.
Massive Rescue Operation Launched
After receiving information about the accident, officials from the forest department, forest committee staff, local residents, tourists, and disaster management teams rushed to the spot. Due to the steep terrain and difficult access, the rescue operation proved extremely challenging.
Despite the difficult conditions, rescuers carried out a careful and intensive operation and successfully brought both injured tourists out of the gorge safely.
Woman Suffers Multiple Fractures, Man Sustains Head Injury
Both victims sustained serious injuries in the accident. The woman reportedly suffered severe injuries to her leg, with initial reports suggesting fractures at two to three places. She was unable to even sit due to unbearable pain and was repeatedly pleading for immediate help.
The young man suffered a serious head injury in the crash.
After being rescued from the gorge, both injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
