Gunfire Near White House Sparks Panic, Suspect Shot Dead During Security Response
Heavy security was deployed around the White House after a suspected gunman opened fire near a checkpoint while US President Donald Trump was inside the presidential complex. Officials confirmed Trump is safe.
A major security scare unfolded outside the White House in Washington DC after a suspected gunman opened fire near the highly protected presidential complex on Sunday evening. The attacker was later shot dead by officers of the US Secret Service during a retaliatory operation, according to reports by international media outlets.
The incident took place while US President Donald Trump was reportedly present inside the White House complex. Officials later confirmed that the President was not harmed and remains completely safe. No Secret Service personnel were injured during the firing incident.
According to preliminary information shared by security agencies, the suspect approached a security checkpoint near the White House around 6 pm Eastern Standard Time. Officials said the man suddenly pulled out a weapon from a bag and allegedly opened fire toward Secret Service officers stationed at the checkpoint.
Security personnel responded immediately and neutralised the suspect on the spot. The injured attacker was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later died during treatment.
Reports also suggested that another individual may have been injured during the incident, though authorities have not yet officially confirmed further details about the second victim.
Following the shooting, security arrangements across the White House area and several key government locations in Washington DC were tightened significantly. Emergency teams and investigators quickly reached the spot as officials began a detailed probe into the motive behind the attack.
FBI Director Kash Patel also confirmed the incident through a social media statement. He said federal agencies are closely monitoring developments and conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting. Authorities have assured that more details will be shared as the investigation progresses.
The White House is considered one of the most heavily guarded locations in the world, and any breach or attack attempt near the complex immediately triggers large-scale emergency security measures across the US capital.
