Further information is awaited as authorities continue rescue, recovery and assessment operations at the crash site.

The AN-32 is a twin-engine military transport aircraft that has long been a key part of the Indian Air Force’s logistics fleet. Designed to operate in challenging conditions, including high-altitude and remote regions, the aircraft is widely used for transporting personnel, equipment and supplies across the country.

The incident comes months after an IAF Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter aircraft crashed in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district during a routine training mission. The aircraft had taken off from Jorhat Air Force Station before losing contact with ground control and subsequently crashing in a remote hilly area, resulting in the deaths of both pilots on board.

The Air Force is expected to provide further details on the AN-32 crash as the investigation progresses.
