Police in Uttar Pradesh have issued a public advisory warning citizens not to touch suspicious pen-like objects, while a recent bomb threat email at Mumbai airport highlights the importance of vigilance and swift reporting of potential security risks.

Amid growing concerns over public safety and security threats, authorities in different parts of the country have urged citizens to remain alert and immediately report suspicious objects or activities to law enforcement agencies.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, police have issued a special advisory warning residents to stay away from any suspicious object resembling a pen. According to officials, such objects could potentially be disguised explosive devices and should not be touched, moved, or inspected by members of the public.

The advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety. Police have appealed to people to maintain a safe distance from any unidentified object found on roadsides, in fields, open spaces, or deserted locations. Citizens have also been advised not to allow crowds to gather around suspicious objects and to immediately inform local police authorities or call the emergency helpline number 112.

Senior Superintendent of Police stressed that, public cooperation is crucial in preventing potential accidents. He urged residents to avoid handling any suspicious object and leave the matter to trained security personnel. Police teams remain on alert and are prepared to investigate reports of suspicious items.

The advisory comes at a time when security agencies across the country continue to treat bomb-related threats with utmost seriousness. A recent incident at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport demonstrated the extensive response mechanisms activated whenever a threat is received.

Authorities launched a large-scale security operation after an email threatening to blow up the airport was received from an unidentified sender. Police personnel, airport security teams and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad officials carried out thorough searches of the airport premises and surrounding areas.

After extensive inspections, no suspicious object or activity was found, and the threat was subsequently declared a hoax. However, officials said every such threat must be investigated comprehensively to ensure passenger safety and maintain security standards at critical infrastructure facilities.

Security experts note that while many bomb threats ultimately turn out to be false alarms, authorities cannot afford to take chances. Every report requires verification, deployment of specialised teams and detailed searches, often involving significant manpower and resources.

Police have reiterated that public awareness remains one of the strongest tools in preventing security incidents. Citizens are advised to avoid touching suspicious objects, maintain a safe distance, immediately inform authorities, and allow trained professionals to assess potential risks.

Officials emphasise that vigilance, timely reporting and adherence to safety advisories can help prevent panic and ensure the safety of communities and public spaces.
