FSSAI Issues Notices To Red Bull, Monster Energy, Campa, PepsiCo's Adrenaline Rush And Hell Energy Over Alleged Misleading Claims
New Delhi, July 2: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to at least six energy drink manufacturers, including the Indian unit of Red Bull, for allegedly using misleading promotional claims that violate food safety regulations.
According to the regulator, several brands marketed as energy drinks have been making functional and therapeutic claims that are not permitted under existing Indian food laws.
In a statement shared on social media, the FSSAI said food products cannot advertise benefits such as “boosting energy,” “improving focus,” or “vitalizing the body and mind” without regulatory approval.
The companies named in the notices include PepsiCo India Holdings for its Adrenaline Rush brand, Monster Energy, Reliance Industries for Campa Energy Drink, Hell Energy, and Red Bull.
The FSSAI also pointed out that India has not yet established specific regulatory standards for energy drinks, making such health-related claims impermissible for food products.
India’s energy drink market has witnessed rapid growth in recent years, driven by increasing urbanisation, rising health awareness, and a growing young consumer base. The regulator’s latest action is part of its broader effort to strengthen compliance with food labeling and advertising norms and ensure consumers are not misled by unsupported health claims.
