FDA Suspends Licences Of Five Pune Blood Banks, Takes Action Against 16 Blood Centres
Pune, July 19, 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has initiated a major crackdown on blood banks and blood storage centres across Maharashtra, suspending the licences of several facilities for violating mandatory safety and operational norms. In Pune district alone, action has been taken against 10 blood centres and six blood storage centres between April and June this year.
Statewide, the FDA inspected blood banks and storage facilities over the three-month period and took action against 38 centres, including 23 blood banks and 15 blood storage centres. Of these, licences of 21 blood banks and 13 blood storage centres were suspended, while the licences of two blood banks and two blood storage centres were permanently cancelled.

Among the major actions in Pune, the FDA suspended the licence of the Metro Blood Centre at the District Hospital in Aundh after inspectors found multiple violations. The blood centre was allegedly preparing blood components without an approved technical supervisor, maintaining incomplete blood records, failing to test platelet samples, and not recording sterilisation temperatures of equipment. Inspectors also found that some blood bags lacked mandatory labelling and information.
Apart from the Metro Blood Centre, the licences of the following blood banks have also been suspended:
- Vimal Charitable Trust Blood Centre, Dehu Road
- Late Madhukar Sakharam Bidkar Blood Centre, Mangalwar Peth
- Poona Serological Institute Blood Centre, Rasta Peth
- Om Blood Centre, Shirur
The FDA also suspended the licences of six blood storage centres in Pune district:
- Vinod Memorial Hospital Blood Storage Centre, Vishrantwadi
- Sai Shraddha Blood Storage Centre, Lohegaon
- Shri Siddhivinayak Criticare, Uruli Kanchan
- Niramay Super Speciality Hospital and Cancer Centre, Bori Pardhi (Daund)
- Yashwantrao Chavan Multispeciality Hospital, Barav (Junnar)
- Prathama Blood Storage Centre, Shivajinagar
Additionally, the licence of Patil Hospital Blood Storage Centre in Bori Pardhi, Daund taluka, has been permanently cancelled following serious regulatory violations.
The FDA said the inspections are part of its ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with blood safety standards and protect public health by enforcing strict quality and operational protocols at blood banks and storage facilities across the state.
