Pune: PMC Standing Committee Approves Temporary Land For Bhumi Green Waste Project Amid Opposition From Congress, NCP
Pune, July 24, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Standing Committee on Thursday approved a proposal to allot temporary land adjacent to the existing waste depot at Uruli Devachi to Bhumi Green Company for nine months, despite strong opposition from Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
The proposal was brought before the Standing Committee as the company’s existing waste processing plant at Uruli Devachi is scheduled to undergo renovation. To ensure uninterrupted waste processing during the renovation period, the civic administration proposed providing Bhumi Green with temporary space next to the existing facility.
After a heated discussion, the proposal was approved by a 9-4 majority.
Reacting to the decision, Standing Committee member and Congress leader, City president East Pune Prashant Jagtap alleged that the PMC administration was favouring Bhumi Green Company.
Jagtap claimed that the company had already been granted higher processing rates for the existing project and alleged that allowing it to establish temporary infrastructure, including sheds and machinery, could eventually pave the way for awarding it a permanent waste processing project at the same location.
He further questioned why the PMC administration was insisting on providing an alternative site to Bhumi Green when several other waste management companies currently working with the civic body had reportedly expressed willingness to handle the additional waste during the renovation period.
According to Jagtap, several companies had submitted letters to the PMC offering to increase their waste collection and processing capacity. He alleged that despite these offers, the administration was extending preferential treatment to Bhumi Green without adequate justification.
The Congress leader also alleged that the decision was intended to benefit a company linked to the family of an office-bearer of a political party, claiming it would come at the expense of public funds. However, he did not present any evidence to support the allegation.
During the voting, Congress member Prashant Jagtap and NCP members Vaishali Bankar, Amol Balwadkar and Suhas Tingre voted against the proposal.
The PMC administration has maintained that the temporary arrangement is necessary to ensure uninterrupted dry waste processing while the existing facility undergoes renovation. The approved temporary allotment will remain in place for nine months.
