Pune Police Ban Sky Laser Beams And High-Intensity Lights Near Airport For 60 Days
Pune, July 24, 2026: The Pune City Police have imposed a 60-day ban on the use of high-intensity beam lights and laser beams directed towards the sky within a 15-kilometre radius of Pune Airport and the Lohegaon Air Force Station to ensure aviation safety.
The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, will come into effect from July 25, 2026, and remain in force for the next 60 days across areas falling under the Pune City Police Commissionerate.
The restriction prohibits event organisers, individuals and establishments from using laser beams or powerful skyward lights during weddings, concerts, corporate events, festivals or any other public gatherings within the notified zone.
According to the police, Pune Airport accommodates commercial flights, Indian Air Force aircraft and helicopters, making it one of the city’s busiest aviation hubs. Officials stated that laser beams and high-intensity lights projected into the sky can distract pilots during take-off and landing, interfere with visibility, and pose a serious risk to flight safety, particularly during night operations.
The preventive order has been issued to eliminate such hazards and ensure the safe movement of aircraft in and around the airport.
Police have warned that anyone violating the directive will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with disobedience of orders lawfully promulgated by a public servant.
Authorities have advised event organisers to incorporate the restriction into their planning well in advance and avoid using laser or high-powered beam lighting in the restricted area during the ban period.
With Pune witnessing an increasing number of large-scale weddings, concerts and entertainment events featuring elaborate lighting displays, the police said the temporary restriction is a precautionary measure aimed at preventing any aviation-related incidents and ensuring public safety.
