Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sanjeev Bhor, Deputy Commissioner, RTO Pune said, “Chairman of Road Safety Committee and District Collector had instructed Pune RTO to survey Pune-Solapur road. Thus officials from RTO along with traffic police and officials from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have surveyed the entire Pune-Solapur road and have identified several accident prone spots, causes for the accidents and other mishaps. Accordingly, this survey was conducted & the concerned departments have been informed to take appropriate measures to reduce accidents. As per information from Bhor, the inspection has shown that there is a need for immediate measures in accident prone areas from Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor and Uruli Kanchan. A similar survey was done for the Pune-Nagar road some days ago. The survey report will soon be sent to the concerned departments for action.

Here are some of the factors contributing to accidents on the Pune-Solapur road:

■ Encroachment at many places on roads and footpaths

■ Illegal parking on the street

■ Divider broken in several places

■ Vehicles entering the road through broken dividers

■ Lack of notice boards in many places

During the survey, some suggestions were discussed for remedial actions:

Signals should be erected at some intersections

Zebra crossing required at intersections

Putting ramblers on the road, removing encroachments

Installation of notice boards for motorists
