Tripuri or Kartik Poornima 2023 : Know the history, significance, time & more
Tripurari Poornima or Tripuri Poornima is another name for Kartik Poornima. In the Shiva temple, Tripura Vata, a lamp wick atop a tall pillar, is lit on this day. This poornima day marks the conclusion of the Tulsi marriage, which began on Ekadashi.
It is believed in Buddhism that Sariputra, a Tathagata Buddha disciple, departed from this life on Kartik Purnima. Buddhists, both male and female, observe the eight sheelas and fast on this full moon.
After making their obeisance to the Buddha, all of the little noble worshipers and worshipers come together to receive the Dhamma teachings. In Sikhism, this day holds particular significance as well. On this day, people celebrate the birth anniversary of Sikhism’s founder, Guru Nanak Dev.
Mythical Background
After undergoing extreme austerities, a demon by the name of Tripurasura pleaded with Lord Brahma for a blessing: he would no longer be afraid of his enemies. Tripurasura featured an impenetrable coast and three cities. Thus, even the gods were powerless against him. At last, the gods prayed to Lord Shankar. Then Shankar killed him and set fire to his three cities. This event became known as Tripurari Poornima because it took place on the day of Kartik Poornima. On this day, lamps are lit for worship both inside and outside of buildings, as well as in temples. People also donate lamps to the river to mark the festival.
On this day, people in North India worship the Skanda idol. This day is the Krittika Mahotsav in the south. There is worship of Shiva there.
On this day, it is also thought that Lord Vishnu took on the form of Matsya.
Lights (Deep) :
On this unique day, devotees present God with a variety of foods. Annakot is the name of this. This day is unique in that, on the occasion of Tripuri Poornima, Deepotsav is observed in temples and public areas. In the evening, candles are lit on the stone idols in the temples. In observance of the festival, devotees light Tripura vata in front of Lord Shankara.
Dev Diwali :
Kartik Purnima is also the day for celebrating Dev Diwali. Dev Diwali is observed on November 26 this year. Varanasi is the primary location for the extravagant and grandiose celebration of Dev Diwali. Jain devotees also refer to this day as the “Jain Festival of Light.” Kartik Purnima, also called Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab, is a celebration of Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary. To offer prayers to Guru Nanak ji, people go to the Gurudwara. For those in the Sikh community, this day holds special significance.

Rituals
· On this auspicious day, people get up early and observe the holy bath ritual. Devotees visit the Ganga Ghats to take holy baths.
· At moonrise, people worship Shiva, Santati, Priti, Anusuya, and Kshama.
· Pray to Lord Vishnu and observe the Satyanarayan fast.
· A lot of people plan hawans or yagyas and pray to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
· When near the Ganga Ghats, one must perform deep daan and light an earthen clay lamp.
· Chanting the mantras of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu is thought to be beneficial.
· On the day of Kartik Purnima, it is mandatory to read the Bhagavad Gita, the Ramayana, and the Kartik Mahatam.
· Present Moon with Arghya in the evening.
