In a concerning incident, a 15-year-old resident of Kanpur district in Uttar Pradesh has been detained for triggering a major security scare with a prank call to Pune airport. The teenager falsely claimed that 40 planes would be bombed while flying over residential areas of the city, prompting swift action from authorities.

Electronic surveillance methods were employed to trace the teenager, who confessed during questioning that he made the call with the intention of gaining fame. Inspired by videos of the Palestine-Israel conflict, the teenager utilized his father’s mobile phone to locate the number of IndiGo’s registered office at Pune airport, through which he made the threat call on January 11.

Upon receiving the call, IndiGo promptly informed Delhi Police, who alerted the Intelligence Bureau. The information was then passed on to the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police, prompting the Kanpur police to initiate an investigation. The crime branch was enlisted to crack the case, leading to the location of the mobile phone being traced to the Sen Paschim Para area of the district.

The boy’s actions were driven by ignorance, and he will be sent back home after counseling with his parents and other family members.” The teenager is now facing legal consequences under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
