Pune- After the Lok Sabha election code of conduct was lifted, Pune Metro resumed work on Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Nigdi metro extension route. According to the director (works) of Pune Metro Atul Gadgil, they have started soil testing and utility identification work for this extended metro route. They have decided to halt the work owing to the Palkhi procession from June 25 to July 1 following a letter they received from the PCMC administration.
The foundation work is scheduled to begin as it is not expected to create any obstacle to the Palkhi procession. The PCMC to Nigdi (Bhakti-Shakti Chowk) metro extension route received central government approval on December 10, 2023. It will cover a length of 4.519 km and its estimated cost is Rs 910.18 crore.
The tender specifically focuses on the viaduct work for this route, and Maha-Metro intends to complete the entire construction process for this route within three years and three months. While the model code of conduct was operational, Pune Metro completed the tendering process of three metro stations on this route. It has now begun the soil testing process on this route.
