Girish Mahajan, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj from Maharashtra has directed officials of various district administrations to make elaborate arrangements for providing clean, safe and hygienic drinking water to the pilgrims. Additionally, ‘Nirmalwari’ of the Rural Development Department will also go this year with the palanquins of Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram Maharaj. Mahajan directed that it should be clean and safe and to plan it carefully.
Like every year, Mahajan held a review meeting at the Divisional Commissioner’s office in Pune on Wednesday (June 19) regarding the preparations. Principal Secretary of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Eknath Dawale was also present on the occasion. Various other officials were present at the meeting. Apart from this, the Collectors and Chief Executive Officers of Satara, Solapur, Nashik and Jalgaon districts were present online.
Mahajan further said, “This year more funds have been made available for the Palkhi ceremony than last year. All work must be completed promptly. Special care should be taken to ensure that cleanliness is maintained at every place of stay, Palkhi route and Visava places. An adequate number of mobile toilets and a greater number of sanitation workers should be appointed for sanitation. Adequate and large size garbage bins should be placed at Pandharpur on the palanquin floor.”
The quality of water in tankers should be regularly checked and cleaned, with a special officer appointed for this purpose. Jalgaon Zilla Parishad should provide two tankers of drinking water till Pandharpur along with the Sant Muktabai Palkhi ceremony. Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in restaurants and hotels along the Palkhi route. Additional manpower and vehicles should be arranged for waste disposal in Pandharpur city. Divisional Commissioner Pulkundwar presented planning information, while Chief Executive Officers from Pune, Satara, Solapur, Nashik, and Jalgaon shared preparations for the Palkhi ceremony.
