A Call To Action: Hinjawadi Residents Petition For Road Safety
The rapidly expanding IT hub of Hinjewadi is facing a pressing concern: poor road quality. Despite being home to over 800 companies and 38,858 IT engineers, the area’s infrastructure is struggling to keep pace. Residents are speaking out against the substandard roads, citing safety risks and inconvenience.
According to Debashish Panda, a committee member of Trend Homes, “The road condition of Hinjawadi is very bad, and every monsoon, huge potholes appear.” Panda’s sentiments are echoed by numerous residents, who are frustrated with the lack of attention to road maintenance. “Everyone in society is complaining about this road, as all students and office-goers feel unsafe while traveling,” Panda told Pune Pulse.
Alarming statistics underscore the urgency of the issue. The National Crime Records Bureau reports that poor road conditions caused 151,113 accidents in India in 2022-23, resulting in significant fatalities and injuries. Locals are urging the local government to enforce stricter road construction quality standards to prevent such incidents.
In response, a petition calling for improved road construction has garnered over 1,000 signatures. Signatories emphasize the importance of safe and durable roads, particularly for daily commuters. “With thousands of IT engineers and companies paying taxes, we deserve well-constructed and maintained roads,” said a petitioner.
As the petition gains momentum, residents remain hopeful that their voices will be heard, and Hinjewadi’s roads will become safer and more durable. The local government must prioritize road safety and maintenance to ensure the well-being of Hinjewadi’s residents and commuters.
