Aadhaar Cards Remain Valid Even After 10 Years, Confirms UIDAI

UIDAI clarifies that Aadhaar cards issued over a decade ago remain valid, debunking fake news about their expiration after 10 years.
A false rumor has been spreading on social media, claiming that Aadhaar cards issued more than ten years ago would become invalid if not updated. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has firmly refuted these claims, confirming that Aadhaar cards remain valid regardless of their update status over the past decade.
The misleading reports seem to have originated from a government announcement about the extension of the deadline for free Aadhaar updates. Originally, the deadline for free online updates was set for March 14 but was extended to June 14, 2024. This extension led to the misconception that Aadhaar cards would be invalidated after June 14 if not updated.

The Centre’s extension allowed people to update their Aadhaar details online for free until June 14, 2024. However, updates requiring an in-person visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra will incur a fee. For example, adding a phone number to an Aadhaar card requires visiting a Seva Kendra and paying the applicable charges.
