PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) have designated two centers each for Aadhaar registration of citizens who are 18 years old and above.

As per the information received, in Pune, the designated centers are the Sinhagad regional office and a tax collection center in Ambegaon. In Pimpri-Chinchwad, the designated centers are the ‘A’ and ‘F’ ward offices. In addition to this, one center has been designated for each taluka in the district.

The central government has issued directives to issue new Aadhaar cards to individuals above 18 years of age in the city and district. Previously, the registration of these individuals was banned by UIDAI, but the ban has now been lifted. However, not all centers will be registering individuals. Specific centers have been fixed in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural areas for this purpose.

Currently, an update campaign is underway, with around 661 centers, including nationalized banks, post offices, government offices, and building premises, participating in the campaign conducted in March. According to the information provided, the central government has ordered a campaign to make it mandatory for holders of old Aadhaar cards issued 10 years ago to update their information.

Aadhaar cards are required in rural areas, including Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, to access various schemes of the central and state governments. However, there has been an increase in the production of fake Aadhaar cards, leading to a ban.

The ban has been lifted from only 16 centers in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the district. Therefore, citizens above 18 years of age can register at specific 16 centers out of the total 214 centers available.

While talking to Pune Pulse, Shruti Ghumatkar, a BCS student,  added, ”It’s good that the Central Government lifted the ban, as we will be able to apply for new Aadhar cards. Aadhar Card has become a necessity to avail various government-related schemes and open bank accounts.”

Om Barve, an engineering student, added, ”Aadhar Card is needed for various admission-related processes. This decision will help many to avail more government facilities.”
