The Mula and Mutha rivers, vital water sources for Pune city, are grappling with severe pollution, prompting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to demand immediate action from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Allegations have surfaced suggesting negligence on the part of PMC and the Environment Department, prompting concerns about the health and environmental impacts of the contamination.

According to AAP Pune’s recent revelations, a thorough examination of the rivers was planned, with water samples collected from Siddheshwar Ghat and slated for delivery to key officials. Sudarshan Jagdale, President of AAP, criticized PMC’s focus on peripheral projects, labeling them as wasteful diversions from urgent issues like river cleanliness.

Despite international assistance pledges for river cleaning projects, little progress has been made, leaving citizens disillusioned with PMC’s priorities. AAP workers’ attempts to engage with PMC officials were met with resistance, highlighting the disconnect between authorities and public concerns.

AAP’s General Secretary, Satish Yadav, expressed frustration at PMC’s reluctance to address citizen demands, warning of escalated protests if action isn’t taken promptly. Akshay Shinde hinted at unconventional tactics, suggesting that if PMC fails to respond within a week, water tankers may visit officials’ residences.

The presence of AAP leaders and representatives underscores the seriousness of the issue and the determination to hold PMC accountable for safeguarding public health and environmental integrity.
