In what turned out to be an emotional and heartfelt evening, Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par was showcased to a select audience during a special screening—drawing powerful reactions, teary eyes, and standing ovations. The event was made even more intimate and impactful by Aamir himself, who was present at the venue, interacting with attendees and taking in their responses first-hand.

The screening wasn’t just a promotional pitstop—it was an honest space where audiences voiced their thoughts directly to the actor. One viewer emotionally shared, “Last twist was also great. You made us cry at that point. Beautifully made film.” Aamir, who seemed touched by the audience’s sentiments, spoke candidly about the film’s message and the experience of working with a cast that includes actors with special needs.

Adding to the praise, another viewer said, “After Taare Zameen Par, a very good film has come to theatres after a big gap. There have been movies that came after that, but this will change perceptions.” This was echoed by a member from Muskan Foundation—an NGO dedicated to children with special needs—who commented, “Very well kept and captured messages. I really appreciate it.”

One of the most meaningful remarks came from an audience member who noted the film’s emotional depth and sensitivity, saying, “You looked after many aspects of sensitivity. Kudos to the writer, director and the dialogues.” To this, Aamir responded with sincerity: “It’s an important issue for all of us.”

The actor further shared that while films often involve creative conflicts behind the scenes, Sitaare Zameen Par was different. There wasn’t a single moment of disagreement throughout the shoot—a rare feat that spoke to the spirit of unity within the crew. Aamir also emphasized that working with differently abled actors didn’t feel different at all, highlighting the inclusive and positive environment on set. He added that the special needs actors had a wonderful time during the making of the film, reflecting the joy and mutual respect that defined the production.

Directed by RS Prasanna, known for Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, the film is being positioned as a spiritual successor to Aamir’s critically acclaimed Taare Zameen Par (2007). However, instead of focusing on childhood dyslexia, this story pivots to the world of sports—specifically basketball—with a deeply human lens. Aamir plays Gulshan, a fallen assistant coach of a professional basketball team who must choose between jail time and 90 days of community service. He opts for the latter and finds himself coaching a team of specially-abled players, setting the stage for a transformative journey—both for him and the team.

Also starring Genelia D’Souza in a key role, Sitaare Zameen Par introduces ten debutant actors: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar. Their performances, according to those who attended the screening, were not only authentic but profoundly moving.

Aamir Khan, who was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha, seems to be returning to familiar yet fertile emotional ground with Sitaare Zameen Par. The early audience reactions suggest this isn’t just a film—it’s a conversation starter, a perspective shifter, and a celebration of inclusion.

The film is set to release in theatres on June 20, and if the reactions from the special screening are anything to go by, audiences are in for a cinematic experience that tugs at the heart while inspiring the soul.
