Ajit Pawar, the Pune district guardian minister, gave the Pune district collector instructions to begin the process of acquiring 135 acres of land for the Lohegaon airport.

Pawar reviewed the new terminal, which is set to open soon, during his visit to the Lohegaon airport on Friday.

It will help to operate more international flights from the existing site, so he has instructed the district collector to acquire the land, Ajit Pawar said.

The land cost, he said, would be borne by the state government to the tune of 60%, Pune Municipal Corporation to 20%, and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to 10% apiece.
