Actress Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell for questioning in connection with the illegal streaming of IPL matches on the FairPlay app. Allegations suggest that Bhatia promoted and endorsed FairPlay’s subsidiary app of the Mahadev betting app, causing substantial financial losses to Viacom.

Bhatia is scheduled to appear for questioning on April 29, following similar summons sent to actor Sanjay Dutt, who requested a new date due to scheduling conflicts. Both Bhatia and Dutt allegedly endorsed FairPlay’s app.

The investigation into the illegal IPL streaming case began in September 2023 after Viacom18 filed an FIR, claiming that FairPlay was streaming IPL matches illegally despite Viacom18 holding the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for streaming IPL matches. The unauthorized streaming resulted in significant financial losses for Viacom18, estimated to be over Rs 100 crore.

In addition to Bhatia and Dutt, several other influencers who endorsed the FairPlay app on various platforms are expected to be summoned soon for questioning. An employee of the betting app was arrested in December 2023 in connection with the case.
