Air India Pilot Dies by Suicide; Boyfriend Arrested for Alleged Harassment Over Non-Veg Diet
A 25-year-old Air India pilot took her own life by hanging herself with a data cable in her apartment in Mumbai, leading to the arrest of her boyfriend for alleged harassment.
The incident occurred in a rented flat in the Marol area of Mumbai, prompting police to detain Srishti Tuli’s boyfriend, Aditya Pandit, on charges of abetment, and he has been placed in custody.
According to an official, a relative of Tuli accused Pandit of harassing and abusing her, as well as pressuring her to stop eating non-vegetarian food, which was noted in the FIR. Tuli, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had been living in Mumbai for work since June of the previous year. She and Pandit met two years ago while studying for a commercial pilot course in Delhi and began a relationship.
The suicide was discovered when Pandit was driving to Delhi. During the trip, Tuli called him to say she was going to end her life. Pandit hurried back to Mumbai and found her apartment door locked from the inside. After getting a locksmith to open the door, he found Tuli hanging with a data cable. She was rushed to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
The FIR, filed at Powai police station by Srishti’s uncle Vivekkumar Narendrakumar Tuli, detailed multiple instances of alleged mistreatment by Aditya, which left Srishti distressed. The uncle recounted an incident from November when Aditya took his daughter Rashi and Srishti shopping in Delhi. They argued, and Aditya became furious, cursing Srishti in front of Rashi and even crashing the car into another vehicle.
In response to the uncle’s allegations, Pandit was arrested under section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He was subsequently presented in court, which ordered him to be held in police custody for four days.
