The Maharashtra government has approved a ₹45 crore project for constructing a ropeway (Rajjū Mārg) to the Ekvira Devi Temple in Karla, alongside a flyover near Karla Phata. The long-awaited project by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is set to begin shortly, with the tendering process expected to conclude within a week following delays caused by election protocols.

The Ekvira Devi Temple, situated atop a hill in the Sahyadri range, draws thousands of devotees and tourists yearly. Currently, visitors must climb several steps to reach the temple, making the journey challenging for some. The upcoming ropeway will significantly simplify access to the temple and boost tourism in the region, which also features nearby attractions like the Karla and Bhaje caves, Lonavala, and historic forts such as Lohagad.

MSRDC Superintendent Engineer Rahul Vasaikar stated that the ropeway project, with a detailed plan already approved, aims to enhance convenience for the seven to eight lakh devotees and tourists visiting annually. Besides easing temple access, the ropeway is expected to further develop the area’s tourism potential.
