Pune: Residents of the societies in Megapolis Township in Hinjawadi are in distress as air pollution in the area is happening frequently due to nearby construction activities.

According to a resident of Megapolis Township, there are seven housing societies in Megapolis Township with a total of 30,000+ residents. It also includes Pawar Public School (PPS) where thousands of students study from nearby areas. In the past few months, the air pollution in this area has increased drastically which affects the health of residents and school students badly.

As per information, currently, construction work is going due to which the trucks bring a lot of mud to the township road (Circle to PPS School) through:

  •  Concrete mix weighing area road opposite to Sunway Society out gate
  •  Loading area road beside Sangria In gate, opposite Megapolis bus stop
  • Construction area road beside PPS school
  • Construction area road opposite PPS school

Additionally, some of the reasons for air pollution are:

  • The mud is currently drying up on the road and creating a lot of dust (air) because of the complete traffic diverted through the township road due to metro work.
  •  There is no proper and regular cleaning of the roads whereas the Megapolis project is one of the major contributors. Not sure if the government pollution guidelines are followed here.
  • The heavy dust air coming inside societies and schools impacts children and elderly people. As a result, they fall ill very frequently. When Pune Pulse spoke to the regional officer, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, Pune, Ravindra Andhale, he said, “I shall send my team to conduct an on field survey to know the exact status.”
