Airtel updates two popular prepaid plans, explore the latest benefits

Airtel updates two popular prepaid plans, explore the latest benefits.
Airtel has made changes to two of its popular prepaid recharge plans at the beginning of 2025, likely in response to a recent directive from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). These updates primarily focus on offering Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) that include voice and SMS benefits, while the data offerings have been reduced.
One of the plans is the Rs 509 prepaid recharge option, which is an updated version of an existing package. It remains valid for 84 days and is designed for users who primarily need voice calling, offering unlimited voice calls and 900 SMS, but it does not include any mobile data benefits.
Previously, the Rs 509 plan included 6GB of data, but this has now been eliminated in the updated version. However, Airtel users will still enjoy additional benefits such as free access to the Airtel Xstream app, Apollo 24/7 Circle membership, and Hello Tunes. For those who still require data, the Rs 569 Airtel prepaid plan is a good option, as it offers 6GB of mobile data along with the same voice and SMS benefits.
The second revised plan is the Rs 1,999 annual pack. This plan continues to offer unlimited voice calls and 3,000 free SMS, but the 24GB of mobile data that was previously part of the package has been removed. Users of this plan can still take advantage of extra services like the Airtel Xstream app, Apollo 24/7 Circle membership, and Hello Tunes.
The updates are a result of TRAI’s requirement for operators to provide special tariff vouchers (STVs) specifically for voice and SMS services. Consequently, the new Airtel plans, although they offer robust voice and SMS features, now have reduced data options, which means customers will need to buy separate data packs if they require data. Alternatively, customers can opt for other plans that provide unlimited benefits. Furthermore, the charges for SMS sent beyond the free limit are Rs 1 for local messages and Rs 1.5 for STD messages.
