Pune, February 2, 2026: A memorial dedicated to late Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will be constructed at the Vidya Pratishthan campus in Baramati, according to a close associate of the Pawar family. The memorial will come up at the same location where Pawar’s last rites were performed.

Kiran Gujar, a trusted aide of Ajit Pawar and a long-time confidant of the family, confirmed the development on Sunday. He said senior leader Sharad Pawar, accompanied by Pratibha Pawar, visited the site earlier in the day before departing for Mumbai and directed that preparations for the memorial be initiated.

“Sharad Pawar asked us, along with the trustees of Vidya Pratishthan, to begin work on planning a memorial for Ajit Dada at the cremation site,” Gujar said, adding that a formal proposal would be prepared in the coming days.

Ajit Pawar, 66, lost his life on January 28 in a tragic aircraft crash near the airstrip at Baramati airport. Four others on board the aircraft were also killed in the accident. His funeral was held with full rites the following day at the Vidya Pratishthan campus.

Gujar said discussions with the institution’s trustees would continue over the next few days to finalise the design and structure of the memorial.

Ajit Pawar was a prominent political leader in Maharashtra and played a pivotal role in the development of Baramati, which has remained a key centre of the Pawar family’s political influence for decades.
